Bosom Buddies
Designed by Patti Spigel and Linda Jacobs
Last year when I heard about the braVo! event, I wanted to check it out. I asked a friend to go downtown and see the exhibit with me. I was incredibly touched as I walked around and saw the bras and read the stories. My “creative juices” were flowing and I realized that some themes had been duplicated and others not even mentioned. As a realtor, I thought something about real estate would be neat, so I filled out a form saying I would make a bra the next year. During those 10 months, a friend of mine, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer. I decided that I would ask her to do the bra with me. She accepted and together we came up with “Bosom Buddies.” We have known each other since elementary school, we attended middle and high school together, and now we live only miles from one another. We have celebrated milestones and supported each other in life. We are both very involved in the real estate industry, which also bonds us. She has been an inspiration to me as she approached this hurdle…to some a mountain…to Linda a molehill.
Beautiful
Designed by Minister Brenda Brown
“Beautiful” is a culmination of my grief at the loss of two of my cousins, who were sisters, who passed away as a result of breast cancer. I miss them tremendously and think of them daily. Denise was beautiful and had a zest for life and a smile that was a light to the world. Marcia had overcome polio as a child. Her will to achieve was amazing.
I would love to see an end to this insidious disease.
I am honored to be a part of this project, and I will continue to do what I can to fight this disease.
I dedicate this artwork to Denise and Marcia and to every woman who has bravely fought breast cancer and to those presently in the battle. I stand in victory with you, my sisters.

Groucho Marx was married and divorced three times. The last significant female in his life was Erin Fleming, his secretary and companion. Despite Groucho’s advancing age and poor health, Ms. Fleming encouraged him to continue to perform and, in 1974, with Fleming at his side, he received a special Oscar at the 46th Annual Academy Awards. The bra you see before you was a gift from Groucho to Fleming. She wore it underneath her gown when Groucho accepted his Oscar. That night, when they returned home from the Awards, Fleming, wearing merely this bra and a scanty pair of panties, sidled up to Groucho and put her chest inches in front of his face. He stared straight ahead and said, “I never forget a face, but in your case, I’ll be glad to make an exception.”
LamBraGhini
Designed by Susan and Ira Katz
Like most young men, we sometimes fantasize about owning an exotic sports car. For many it is only a dream. Young or old, male or female, everybody dreams, however most of us dream about the tangible things like homes, cars, vacations. But what is more important than any item of true value is our health and the hope that we all live to see our families grow and prosper.
For many of us, life is cut short. Losing a family member can be devastating when the loss is at an early age. Think about not having the opportunity to enjoy life. Not being there for happy occasions. Not being there to play with your grandchildren. Not being able to dream!
Due in part to the lack of technology and late detection,
I lost my mother in 1973 when she was 48. At the end of her battle with breast cancer, her only “dream” was not to spend the rest of her life in a nursing home. On the very day of her transfer to the hospice unit, she passed. Her dream came true.
The concept of “LamBraGhini” is simply to say that we all have different dreams; some about the fast sports car, but for me, I really want to live a long and healthy life. Then someday, I can pick my grandchildren up from school in my new Lamborghini.
In memory of my mother, Claire D. Katz, I have placed her initials on the license plates of LamBraGhini.
The Mermaid’s Treasure
Designed by Paula Worthing
The sea holds many secrets
For man to discover and explore.
A relief of pain and suffering
Might be found in the ocean floor.
So let the Mermaids guide our research
To the treasures of the deep,
And the cures to many illnesses
The results for us to reap.
